Parenting hits and misses

Long gone the days where I could hang my shirts, blouses, dresses and baju kurung with colour coded hangers..watching TV in the room, stack of books stacked nicely at the corner of the room…take out lunch&dinners..room spick& span..16 years later…

Stacks of books here&there..me have been buying books like there's no tomorrow + books hubby bought, then the children's books..down the stairs and "ouch" stepped on a lego piece..plop yourself on the sofa and you find someone has spilled a drink..reach out for the remote and it has disappeared between the cushions or underneath the sofa or worst case if you have to look for the tv remote or the ASTRO remote in the fridge.

Life at home used to be calm and everything have its place.At night I used to lit candles when the boy no1 &2  asleep, dim lights and listening to Mozart or easy listening music…Used to have a Contemporary Nusantara deco in the house, rattan chairs,pots,wooden deco,cushions and comfy resort like..then boy no 3& 4 came out…these cute little people is different, they seems to be randomly sticking their tiny hands between the rattan chair and "patahkan: the rotan and the other one keep on jumping on the chair- lo& behold suddenly there's a big hole in the chair, tiny hands that randomly deposit foods and toys e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e…

Living room is the most lived and where the main activities are..the deco keep changing, came home one day and found out the IKEA lamp has broken into into pieces.., the flowers are pulled out from it stems, cushions are batik printing aka marker stained drawings by the little people..I bought big "kertas mahjung" for them to draw but they prefers the walls anytime..marker stained on tables, cupboard, racks..almost e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e…

Toys- mana datang semua ni??? oh well…contributory negligence on my part as well..McDonald Happy Meal toys, birthday toys, Abang's toys..thank God, we have IKEA in Malaysia, so you end up buying more stuff to fill in more stuff(toys)Now we have 5 toy box in the house. And when my Princess arrived , we end up buying more toys…girlie stuff..

Being on FB and joining all the pre-loved groups,garage sales…uh uh..more stuff in the house but no stuff out from the house..

Dang!I really have to sort out all the outgrown clothes, the preloved toys and stuff and sell and donate it..

Jamu Bersalin- traditional herbs you eat while in confinement


Dah 5 kiddos ni mesti orang tanya, waktu u pantang bersalin dulu u makan jamu apa? Untuk 5 orang anak  ai la..Jamu Nona Roguy jugak la yg I suka…I terpanggil nak write something on Nona Roguy sebab nampak dia macam tenggelam dalam arus kebanjiran banyak jamu jamu baru yang berada dipasaran.

Mula-mula bertapak Nona Roguy ni ofis dia dekat Damansara Heights. That was waayy back in 1998. back then it was the first local produced jamu. Kalu tak semua jamu bersalin kat Malaysia ni datang dari Indonesia, Nyonya Meneer, Air Mancur (ni zaman- zaman mak I dulu pun dah ada and still ada kat pasaran). Bila mengandung anak pertama tu try la pegi check it out dekat kedai2…haduss..tak tahan ooo.. bau ini jamu2..kuat betul..

So bila my friend introduce ni..ok la..waktu tu I tak mengandung lagi..so-so her la minat nya..Kawan I kata try la jamu yg lain dulu- buang angin..(badan I ni apprently banyak angin)ok la verdict (masa tu mode tak minat ka.)n…Harga dia time tu memang agak mahal la kalau compare dengan jamu Nyonya Meneer, jamu air mancur semua..Mula2 my best friend try dulu makan Jamu Nona Roguy ni…memang dia slim semula, in fact dia kata masa sebelum kahwin, diet macamana pun tak jadi kurus cam gitu..susu badan jangan cakap la..memang banyak bila minum teh herbanika tu…

Bila preggie anak pertama, apa lagi, I berdikit2 le kumpul duit nak beli jamu ni…masa tu packaging dia lain.Memang cantik, exclusive giler la pada I compared to Nyonya Meneer


Set Bersalin Lengkap Nona Roguy
So lepas bersalin, dalam pantang, I try la makan jamu ni. Yang pertama, I suka sebab dia tak busuk..hahaha..kalu jamu yang Indonesia tu..aduisss..kuat betul bau nyer..tak sanggup nak makan. Oh ya, time tu Nona Roguy ni anak-anak taukey yg jaga& bagi consultasi nyer. I di nasihatkan untuk makan herbanika bersalin dengan pati halia&air gamat. First time minum air gamat..busuk bau longkang rupanya air gamat ni…tapi I tell you, dalam 2 minggu makan jamu dia badan dah sedap, "pass motion" aka  nak poo poo senang..badan berpeluh-peluh.So badan memang ringan .air teh herbanika dia memang bagus..susu badan memang banyak.  1 side ajer pam susu pun dah penuh 8oz..
satu lagi produk dia yang bagus ialah minyak herbanika..sampai sekarang memang ada satu spare kat rumah.Luka-luka mudah sembuh..

Anyway, masa anak no 4 ada la orang suggest Sendayu Tinggi- I tanya my SIL ok tak?sebab dia try waktu bersalin anakno3..dia kata tak sesaui untuk dis sebab jade sembelit so she end up half way dis beli Nona Roguy jugak..

Jamu Bersalin Mak Dara

Anak no 5, I nak try la jamu lain..try la Jamu Mak Dara…best jugak, senang etc..tapi tak puas la pulak poo poo sebab dah biasa senang bila dengan Nona Roguy. Tengah2 pantang gi beli jugak Jamu Nona Roguy.

Pilis jamu mak dara bagus…sampai sekarang ada lebih so bila anak2 jatuh, bengkak, campur dgn air skit, sapu..memang susut la bengkak tu. Losyen limau purut Jamu Mak dara memang awesome..panas..senang nak sapu kat perut..

Masa pregnant, hidung I selalu tersumbat..susah gak la nak bernafas- so I beli bauan herba mak dara..memang lega..Masa tu Sue balik dari cuti dari Paris& down with cold..bagi dia hidu..clear nasal passage.

Dah baby last ni bear sikit..ada jugak la rasa miss nak makan jamu…mmm..maybe boleh start balik kut? kasi kurus semula macam lepas bersalin…..hehehehe

Hummingbird Cake

What cake shall I bake next? simple easy cake . Red velvet ?nahh..too lazy to go& buy buttermilk.There's whole loads of chocolate in the fridge but  don't feel like having a chocolate cake…Amende la nak buat ni…korek korek kat dapur jumpa pisang, nenas and pecan nut..hurmm.. hurmm… let's do the humming bird cake..macam sedap..macam senang…


Ingredients

150 g plain flour
3/4 bicarbonate soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
125 g soft light brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
100 ml sunflower oil
1 ripe banana
1 can of pineapple(drained and finely chopped)
25gm pecan nuts- finely chopped and extra slice to decorate

Sift flour, soda bicarbonate and cinnamon into a bowl and stir in the sugar.Add eggs, oil, banana, pineapple and chopped pecan and mixed thoroughly . Bake the cake in pre-heated oven.

Preheat oven- 180C/350F
Cooking time 30-40 min or until risen,g olden and firm to touch.

A cake packed with pineapple, banana and pecan nuts and lightly spiced with cinnamon. Decorated with rich and creamy cheese frosting and they are as sweet as nectar…sedapppp..cuba lah..kalau malls order her from me…hehehehe

Hello..I do have a life


I went to the BLUE building to meet up with some BLUE comrades. 

I was happy to see them, really miss working with them.I guess it was my longest workplace and you tend to grow with them. I do miss the hip and happening but I have anchored my ship too long at that port and it was time to set sail again.


Managed to meet up with a former MBA classmate. He was from ORANGE people turned BLUE now..He said he's doing things that he never imagined he would do-from sales to content. And the thing about him, he's not into this technology thingy. But I guess he has to jump on the bandwagon to stay afloat. That's why when I update him what happened with ORANGE people he said that he's glad that he has a job.Well..this came from a guy who switched his major the very last minute at the very last semester when the lecturer pointed out that he did not prepare well for his presentation.He switched to to ensure he gets an A. Maybe that's one type of survival strategy that I need to re-learn. 

Well..I'm not making excuses for the way my life is now.I do sometimes dwell on the past
(why if's, why ..why..) on what has happened to me, BUT life happens to everyone. You see..I know that 80% don't care about you and 20% are glad it's you..

I choose this path to create some positive things for myself today. I believed I can dream again. DREAM BIG..(it may look small now…hehehe). I want to achieve another goal. I can laugh out loud without feeling guilty and I want to connect with life again on a deeper level than I have ever done before. I'm exploring life- once again..

Ahooyy matey..ready to set your sail and catch the wind with me?

Food Review by Food Blogger Sherrina.com

Mula-mula rasa cuak jugak la bila blogger yg ai kenal ni approach and tanya..macam tak confident pun ada. Sherrina datang waktu tengah siapkan order untuk di hantar ke Seremban, so dapatla dia tengok process pembuatan & bau aroma freshly baked congo bars.

Alhamdulillah...merasa sangat happy bila one of the famous food blogger bagi review yang bagus untuk  congo bar yg I buat..Ini yang menjadi pembakar semangat lagi untuk terus berusaha..Man taknya, Sherrina tak pergi merata ceruk KL ni untuk food tasting termasuk restoren-restoren yang femes..memang agak gementar la skit tunggu komen dia..

Ramai yang kata congo bars ni sure manis sangat la...tapi mari la rasa dulu sebab I dah kurangkan gula dia. Kata Sherrina, gula dia just nice..ngam ngam jer..kebetulan pulak dia suka chocolate Hersheys- cair di mulut. Kalau di Famous Amos, too sweet for her taste katanya..

OOhhh lalalala...cream cheese frosting on my carrot cake




Carrot cake ni favourite my Encik Hubby. Dulu dulu sebelum kahwin tak pernah la rasa kek ni..macam pelik pulak la kan carrot jadi kek...Mula-mula rasa carrot cake ni, Ecah my SIL buat...mmm..sedap..pastu try beli kat Secret Recipe tak le oommph mana pun..then order dgn my friend ni adik dia buat..to me sedap dia letak banyak walnut tapi Encik Hubby tak suka la plak...

So..bila ada flexi time ni..apa lagi..try la sendiri..Honestly the tricky part is actually the cream cheese frosting.I try "Turtura" brand..memang sangat creamy tapi dia macam cepat cair..so I try Philadephia cream cheese...mmm..better..& sedap..

Apa-apa pun personal preference, tak gitew? Believe it or not, sekarang I dah ambil order....macam tak caya jer...apa-apa pun Alhamdulillah... Kalau nak try- sms or email..delivery pun boleh tapi ikut T&C la ye...hehehehe

Congo bars ala Bakerella...



Some called it Congo bars, some call 'em Blondies, found cookie cake at Famos Amos..It look so delicious so I decided to google the recipe and found the recipe from Bakerella..
  • 2 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1 lb. light brown sugar  ( I reduced the sugar to 10-11 oz only)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 11.5 ounce package milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnut  (optional)
1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl- set aside
2. Combine butter&sugar 
3.Add the eggs , one at a time to the sugar mixture
4.Add vanilla to the mix, add chocolate chips,the nuts then the flour until combined.
5. Coat a 13 x 9 pan with non stick spray and spread nbatter evenly into dish
6. Bake at 360 degree  for 30 minute or until the top is golden brown.

Make sure don't over bake

1st time try..mak aiii..manis nyer..so I decided to reduce the sugar.. 

My kids lurrves this so much and they keep asking for more..slightly crunchy outside and soft inside. A marriage made in heaven between brownies and chocolate chip cookies..Yummmsss

Step by step..oh baby...

Bila orang cakap jer step by step ..sure teringat lagu New Kids on the Block (NKOTB)..very femes boy band zaman ai muda-muda dulu...kelakar la plak bila ingat...memang hot lah group ni..1st year Uni, my course mate She-Ra asyik nyanyi jer lagu ni especially masa orientation week and we actually kena sumbat kapas kat telinga, tutup kepala  dengan bantal sebab tak sanggup dengar dia nyanyi "off key" ...hahahah..kelakar tul...giler kentang satu hari suntuk nyanyi lagu NKOTB and dia tak perasan it was off key because pakai "walkman"...argghhh..

Anyway, bila kerja sendiri ni banyakkkk betul nak buat..Masa sambung study MBA tu macam senang jer...yelah dari segi teori kan..bila go to market with our product ni rasa macam mengah jugak la...and banyak juga la dugaan dugaan yg melanda...ada speedbump, ada highway, ada jalan lama, ada red- tape  and divine intervention that you cannot avoid...so kena brake la..then masuk gear balik dan gerak balik pelan-pelan..

Banyak jugak I belajar time ni...its real life practice, real life lesson...ada yg sangat suka share pengetahuan&ilmu, ada orang kedekut&sorok2..serupa jer macam Corporate Life i dulu..cuma kali ni..kalu tak suka, I boleh choose to stay or walk out.I actually nak sambung PhD tapi Encik Hubby macam tak 100% bagi so macam agak keberatan la..proposal pun 2 tahun tak habis lagi tulis..asyik tukar topik jer..hahaha...Anyway, when I told him nak belajar masak la...Encik Hubby dengan suka hati nya membenarkan Mak Encik isterinya untuk attend kelas memasak.

First Kelas Memasak ialah - Kelas Cake Kitchen Guardian at Dessert Table Damansara. Back then we were both lawyers kat satu Telco ni. Kitchen Guardian memang pandai memasak and kata another friend masa kat Uni in UK, Yani of KG can cook something out of nothing from the fridge...terror kan? Yani jugak yg ajar I masak beriyani udang..tapi I ada sikit malas so kadang-kadang I cheat & guna rempah dah siap& tak buat from scratch....heheheh..tapi masih "muah muah wallah..." janji family& friends suka apa yg I masak.

Dah belajar pastu tak buat la kan? Itu yg kena bebel jugak la dgn KG...dia kata buat jer...buat jer...mana tak nye, I nak ambil jalan senang& order jer dari KG (aci tak?) 

Tapi I ambik kata-kata semangat dari KG...so I pun buat jer and continue pergi kelas- kelas memasak, belajar& ikut tip tip yg diberi...tu yg baking sakan...try resipi ni, resepi tu..masa ni you akan jumpa sampai bila takde kek or makanan manis kat rumah Encik Hubby pun dah tanya...takde kek ke hari ni..hahhahaha..lawak la pulak..order pun dah start coming in ..Alhamdulillah..ye lah kawan-kawan bagi semangat& bagi perangsang untuk buat lebih lagi

Sekarang ni, tengah praktis & belajar balik satu demi satu resepi tradisi yang I belajar dari "Awok" my nanny...there's a whole list to go through...itu belum Encik Hubby punya side of family..masakan Penang & Singapore..

u belum lagi minat I kumpul barang- barang lama..boleh check la my IG..

Semoga berjaya mencari mood& jangan patah semangat utk buat semua ni..... Cai yok Caiyok

Pirate Theme Party for 7 year Old Captain Rasyidin


A pirate without water? How to walk the plank?

The party was held by a poolside to get the kids into the mood. And sure enough they all can't wait to jump into the water.

The theme colour was red, black and white.

The delicious Pirate theme chocolate cake was prepared by Moody Bakes and the usual fabulous red velvet and oreo cupcake prepared by Bakereen, my two personal favourite bakers....

Loads of scrumptious food to be enjoyed by the guest

To set the table like a ship, we set up a sail and hung  pirate flags. a chest fills with gold coins and jewellery, a hurricane lamp, a sisal and some sea shells to complete the look

Harry Potter's Theme for 8 year old Luqman Harith


Had to do some research and watch those early Harry Potter movies to get ideas for the birthday.

I've put together some picture templates  to come up with the invitation card.

I made the party pack myself- take a brown bag, cut the top to look like a broom , put in the broom handle (which is actually a pen)..inside the party pack are magic thumb dust,  Mrs Bott every flavour beans i.e jelly beans, a ball and some chocolate mik and tie the pack with sisal rope..

Fairy theme birthday party for our baby girl Sabrina


Our Baby Girl is 2! 


Time flies so fast...I could still feel her tiny hands holding mine, she was only 34 weeks old when Dr. had to do C-sec to take out for fear that my high blood pressure would have adverse affect on her...


PARTY INSPIRATION

Creating a beautiful party requires careful planning and resourceful creativity. I wanted to create a magical ambiance, my main inspiration were TinkerBell, pink and purple hues, butterflies, toadstool and fairies in the garden.

Pink and white paper lanterns hanging by the main table,little grass mats from the local wedding supplier are used as place mats and  bouquets of pink and purple flowers on the table, pink and white balloons for the kids

Julie & Julia- gastronomique experiment?

I memang suka la pakai Unifi ni...bukan saja laju internet dia tapi Hypp TV dia memang marbeles..hehehe. Bukan promo tapi kalu dah best memang kena war war kan..

After meeting one day, I went home..rasa boring sebab ngantuk and not in the mood to do any write up or analysis. So tekan VOD (video on demand) tengok what free movie available..Julie & Julia.. sounds interesting on a sleepy afternoon..not too keen of having a siesta that day..so here goes..

Story about Julie, a girl who moved uptown into a small apartment above a pizza restaurant with her husband. To kill her boredom at work, hubby suggested for her to write a blog to fulfill her writing ambition and to vent out her frustration etc. So she decided to write her experience on learning how to cook for 365 days with Julia Child's book as reference.





I'm so inspired by this movie...should I do the same?

Emping

emping+kelapa+gula+ secubit garam

Emping ni reminds me a lot zaman I kecik-kecik dulu..My family duduk kampung and arwah my nanny "Awok" yang masak ni for me..kat dapur tu I selalu tanya dia how to cook this and that..

Kengkawan ramai bertanya "Emping" tu apa? Emping ni dibuat dari padi muda yg ditumbuk sampai jadi "flat". kalau omputeh ada cornflakes kita kat Malaysia ni "riceflakes" aka "emping"

Mana nak dapat emping ni? I dapat ni dari kawan balik dari Kedah, dia beli kat Pekan Rabu. Dia beli satu bungkus yg tak masak, satu lagi yg dah siap.
Yang dah siap tu pedas sikit. Lagi satu tempat yg selalu ada jual ialah Pasar Tani Temerloh..

Macamana nak masak emping ni? Ada 2 cara yg I selalu makan..

Yang pertama, macam gambar di atas- favourite saya..

1. Goreng emping tu sampai kekuningan
2. campur kelapa parut (nyiur) yang dah dicampur gula dan secubit garam dengan emping yang dah dogoreng tadi.

Wallah! dah siappp untuk di makan...yummmsss. My daughter suka sangat ni..macam Mama dia jugak...

Ada jugak orang yang akan rendam dulu emping ni dengan air panas bagi lembut, lepas tu toskan air then baru campur dengan kelapa, gula& garam

Yang kedua- Serawa Emping- ini koi ambil dari portal majlis daerah Pekan, Pahang


Bahan-bahan
  • ½ kg emping beras
  • 150g kelapa parut – tanpa kulit ari
  • 3 biji telur
  • 400g gula pasir
  • 200g atau 20 helai daun pandan – ditumbuk
  • 2 ½ cawan air
Cara memasak
  • Pecahkan telur dan ramas bersama kelapa parut dan daun pandan. Campur dengan 1½ cawan air dan perah. Kemudian masukkan air yang selebihnya dan perah lagi. Campurkan bersama dengan santan perahan tadi dan tapis.
  • Campurkan gula ke dalam santan itu dan masak di atas api kecil sehingga pekat dan berkilat. Kacau selalu supaya tidak pecah minyak.
  • Untuk menghidang, letakkan emping dalam bekas dan tuang serawa ke atasnya.

Slow Down Mummy

Why I choose to quit after 20 years in Corporate? Legal work is so in my blood  but once  you're in a higher position ,doing Internal Audit? Senior Audit Consultant for Legal, Procurement and HR., you know after 8 months of doing something that's against your personality..you cant push yourself to do it anymore...muntah hijau hoccay..

The turning point ,while I was laying in bed in the hospital.... how I miss my children, how I was busy with work and have no time to listen to their stories..I miss their smell, I miss their laugh, I miss their screaming.. It so not worth it working with people who has attitude& trust issue..

So , here goes

The Quest for Mee Bandung

My school alumni ada BBM group sekarang dah update ke Whats App group...lagi la meriah suasana..berdenting-denting phone tu..by lunch the battery already kaput and need to re-charged.

One night the group starts chatting about food and a friend AJ who seems to be a foodie starts looking for the finest or delicious mer bandung in KL..not Muar Mee Bandung but ordinary mee bandung.According to him the muar mee bandung is a tad sweet for him. So there were exchanges as where to look for the ultimate mee bandung..

Here are some of the place we exchange that night...

1. AJ said Restoren's Haslam mee bandung are cool

2. Made said that there's a place in Bukit Tunku..not very familiar to me though but AJ said he will find out

3. Warung Kayu manis, Taman Melawati - mee bandung ketam, sedap but a bit on the oily side for me. This place is also famous for Mustafa Jones burger bakar and ribs (very succulent and juicy) and its kedondong asam boi

4. According to Yong Shireen-the newly opened RK Bistro's (belongs to an artiste couple Rizman Khuzaimi& wifey Kartina Ayoob) mee bandung is not bad too. She uploaded the pictures for us to drool..yummeh!Aida confirmed its delicious....

I was drooling and decided to drag Mr. Hubby to RK Bistro but unfortunately they are just closing for the night..I end up eating at Mamak Choice's mer bandung..not bad..just to kill the carving for the night.

Next day..jeng jeng...lunch time-RK Bistro here I come...-verdict for the mee bandung- recommended!

Baking la pulak...simple choc cake

Alahai...since I dah start masak-masak semula ni, my kiddos dah start request for me to cook this and that..so lets hit the kitchen while the mood is still hot and not suam suam kuku...

Hari ni Idin minta chocolate cake. A few times when we go out for groceries, he kept on pointing to Pilsbury cake mix for me to bake him a cake. No Pilsbury today honeybunch but lets try  a cake recipe..

Classic Chocolate cake

55 g cocoa powder
7 tbsp boiling water
200g butter/margarine  softened plus extra for greasing
125 g caster sugar
70g light brown sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract/essence
200g self raising flour ( self raising flour substitution- 2 teaspoon of baking powder to each cup (150g) of multipurpose flour/plain flour)

Frosting

200g cooking chocolate
115 g unsalted butter
100 ml/ 3.5 fl oz double cream

Pre-heat oven 180c

Mix cocoa powder butter & water to smooth paste- set aside.
Put butter/margarine caster sugar, brown sugar- beat until pale& creamy and add in eggs  one at a time then add in vanilla extract/essence then add in cocoa paste.

Masukkan tepung, fold gently and pour in the mixture in cake tin and bake in pre heat oven for 35 mins or risen and springy to touch.

Nak buat frosting- letak chocolate& and butter dalam periuk atas satu lagi periuk atau saucepan of simmering water dan panaskan hingga chocolate&butter cair- (cooking chocolate Nona pun ok jer, nak makan sendiri..) Alihkan dari api dan masukkan cream.Leave to cool the chill in refrigerator for 30-450mn, kacau sekali sekalan until thick enough to spread..

Yummeh ..cake habis dalam sekelip mata!!tak sampai 1/2 jam pun....
